CHINA AIRLINES HISTORY
China Airlines was established in Taipei in 1959, initially with
a staff of 26 and a fleet of 2 amphibian aircraft. Domestic scheduled
flights began in 1962 to the city of Hualien, and international
flights began in 1966 with flights to Vietnam.
The airline's international route structure grew rapidly, first
within Asia, and then to the USA and Canada, Europe and the South
Pacific. In 2008 China Airlines launched history-making flights
between Taiwan and Mainland China.
In January 2011 China Airlines launched flights between Auckland and
Taipei via Brisbane, three times per week. China Airlines also operates four flights
per week between Sydney and Taipei, with convenient connections from New Zealand.
Today China Airlines' fleet has grown to include more than 60 Boeing
and Airbus aircraft, with an average fleet age of 6.5 years which
makes it one of the youngest airline fleets in the world, and the
airline flies to 75 cities in 27 countries.
In September 2011, China Airlines became the latest member of the SkyTeam alliance.
